Background and History

Location

The Sululta Polytechnic College under the Oromia Job Creation and Skills Bureau. It is located in shagger City Sululta Sub-City Waserbi Woreda with a total land area of 5.06 hekt with 6 building structures. It started as College training students in 2003. The TVET possess the knowledge, skills and the right attitude in their chosen occupation and to the industry practitioners more adept practice of the technology as well as to emerging technologies. The Administrative Board governs the college. All matters pertaining to the operations of the college should have the awareness and approval of the board.

 

 Establishment and Legal Ground

In 2003, the Oromia TVET commission critically pushed for the establishment of a TVET College to primarily train TVET trainees based on the growing demand for TVET trainer to facilitate competently the training of the young people and to manage the training workshops with effectiveness and efficiency. Under the Council of Oromia TVET Commotion Proclamation No. 245/2011, the TVET College was established. The road to operate the TVET Colleges not that easy as some others may say considering the inadequacy of the training facilities to the responsibilities attached to its mandate. The College aspires to expand from its initial programs to additional occupational areas that will serve more the TVET sectors in the near future.

 

 Academic Programs:

The College started initially to offer level I - IV trainees’ Occupational sectors namely:, Bar bending and Concreting, Masonry, Mechanics, Electro Technology, IEMDS, and Building Electrical Installation, Information and Communication Technology, Furniture Making, Fashion Design and Garment technology. It has started conceptualizing and organizing other short and long-term programs that will further support the TVET sector. The TVET trainees and other costumer have strong needs to be up graded on their skills and improve their training methodology as a continuous process of further development of competence.

 

Programs:

Sululta Polytechnic College enrolling and training with regular, night and weekend program in different occupation from level I – IV and short-term program is part of the training in regular for un-employ or job seekers.

 

The goal of this Institute’s program is to strengthen the implementation of the TVET Reform and to support a TVET system in Ethiopia that will provide visible change in terms of industry ownership. Also, it is intended to achieve that the industry will put their trust in TVET to create more wage- and self-employment. Therefore, demand driven training in areas that are appropriate to the development needs of the Ethiopian economy is required and the TVET Institute must actively contribute and play a vital role in achieving this national goal. In doing so, the training of TVET trainees, MSE and industry practitioners must conform to the following elements:

 

· Foundation on Occupational Standards (OS) based on local and international practices, recognized and approved by the government, industry and other relevant stakeholders.

 

· Subjection to Institutional Assessment to determine the students’ acquired competence against the curriculum and occupational standards.

 

· Provision of the skills to pass the assessment

 

· Provision of the opportunity to acquire National Certification
